John F. Theisen was born April 10, 1926, in Omaha, Nebraska to Dr. Frank and Viola(Muldoon)
Theisen.  He graduated from high school in 1944 from St. Ludger's Academy in Creighton,
Nebraska.  From 1943-1946 he served in the United States Air Force, one year overseas.  John
attended Creighton University from 1946-1952 where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery
Degree.  On August 16, 1952, he married Valeria Schott at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in
Osceola.  They lived in Omaha prior to his graduation and then moved to Howells, Nebraska where
he began his dental practice.  Shortly thereafter they moved to Schuyler where he practiced dentistry
until his retirement.
Dr. Theisen was Past American Legion Commander, member of the Schuyler VFW, President of the
Schuyler Chamber of Commerce two terms, one term Jaycees President, Chairman of the original
City of Schuyler Planning and Zoning Commission, First Ward City Councilman four years,
Schuyler Mayor for eight years, Chairman of the Catholic Education Committee in Schuyler,
appointed by Governor Ben Nelson to the Industrial Development Advisory Board, Chairman of the
Schuyler Civil Service Commission, Member of the House of Delegates-Nebraska Dental
Association, Grand Knight of the Schuyler Knights of Columbus and member of Alpha Sigma Nu, a
Jesuit Honor Society.  He also received the Wal-mart Award for Mayors, Ak-Sar-Ben Good
Neighbor Award and the Theisen family was Schuyler's Cathoic Family of the year in 1992.
Dr. Theisen is survived by his wife Valeria(Val) Theisen of Schuyler, son Frank Theisen, two
daughters; Mary Jo(Mark) Stegman, Patty(Lans) Brown, six grandchildren; Matt, Tom, Kate and
Joe Stegman, Ashley and Morgan Brown, all of Omaha, many nieces and nephews, colleagues and
many fellow contributors to making Schuyler a better place in which to live.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dr. James Theisen.
