Janice Eaton was born February 9, 1944 to Rose (Viglicky) and Adolf Egr. She attended Linwood Public School and Schuyler Central High School.  She grew up on her parents’ farm near Linwood.  She has fond memories of eating candy from her Dad’s store, adventures with her friends, learning to drive by steering her Dad’s car back and forth in the driveway, and not so fond memories of her older brothers putting her in the goose pen to be chased by an angry goose.  Janice could play a mean accordion and enjoyed polka and country music.

On September 9, 1961 she was united in marriage to Jack Eaton.  They made their home in Linwood and remained there until Janice moved to Brookestone in David City in November of last year. She was a previous member of St. Mary’s Catholic church of Linwood and current member of St. Peter & Paul’s Catholic church of Abie.

Janice worked hard to help support her family, working at Campbell’s Soup, Becton Dickinson, and Appleton Electric from which she retired in 2009, as well as occasionally working part time at the Sand Bar in Linwood.  Her co-workers at BD recall fond memories of their group working “too fast” so the managers would send them on extra breaks so the quotas wouldn’t be raised for others.  The stories of those breaks still bring a smile.  At Appleton Electric Janice also took her work seriously, earning her and her friend Joanne humorous nicknames from the other workers.

Janice was an excellent cook.  Kids’ favorites include her kolac, fried chicken, and chocolate and cream puff desserts.  The grandkids’ favorites were, of course, her famous jello jiggler Easter eggs. Graduations and weddings meant making cream cheese mints, because Janice made sure it was known that it’s not a celebration without the mints.

She enjoyed watching her bird feeders, especially loving the hummingbirds, orioles, and cardinals.  She also loved her flower beds and flowering bushes, particularly her bleeding-heart plant, forsythia, and lilies.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy.  She was looking forward to three new great-grandchildren to be born within months of each other.  She was always asking for the latest pictures.

Janice is survived by her daughters, Tracey (David) Sobota of Schuyler, Shannon (Jay) Berry of Lincoln, Tricia Eaton (Jason Brabec) of Prague; her sons, Will (Kathy) Eaton of Linwood, Roger (Christy) Eaton of Bruno, and Jonathan Eaton (Kara Dinslage) of Clarkson; Grandchildren Amber (Keldon) Philips of Schuyler, Cheyenne (Jacob) Sobota of Rogers, Emily (Jacob) Standage of Eagle, James (Chloe) Berry of Lincoln, Jade Eaton of Prague, Joshua Eaton (Maggie Matchett) of Columbus, Brandon (Cheyenne) Jacobson of Fullerton, Samantha Brabec (Devon Cemper) of Shelby; Callie Eaton of Clarkson.
