Mary was born July 5, 1937 to Grant and Theda (Brown) Sage in Beatrice, Nebraska. On December 18, 1953, she married William Darnell at the Methodist Church in Beatrice. They lived in Wymore, moving to Lincoln in 1963, Rising City in 1995 and finally to David City in 2017.
Mary was a homemaker for several years and later worked at a nursing home in Colorado and Lincoln. She loved bingo and crocheting. She also loved hummingbirds, the aspen trees and mountains, and painting ceramics.
She is survived by her children: Don (Trish) Darnell, Bill (Kay) Darnell, Susan (Robert) Landwehr, and James (Brandi) Darnell, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings: David Charmichael, Carolyn Jansen, Dixie Jansen, and Betty Milford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers: Vernon Carmichael, Donald Titus, and John Carmichael, sisters: Eleanor Carmichael and Shirley Alsman.
