Orva (Brockmann) Heins passed away April 12, 2026 at Elkhorn, Nebraska. She was blessed with a long life and was born on June 10th, 1925 to Robert and Stella Brockman in Cuming County, Nebraska. Orva graduated from West Point High School in 1943. After High School she began a career of teaching school, initially teaching at several rural schools in Cuming County before teaching at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in West Point. During this time, she also attended Concordia Teachers College in Seward during summers. She was married to Laverne Heins on September 18th, 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point, Nebraska and moved to a farm near Surprise, Nebraska and had two sons. She taught Sunday school, sang in choir, and participated in women’s organizations at her church. She helped the Surprise School establishing a library and assisted with teaching at the school. She was also an active member of the local Extension Club and served on the Surprise School Board for several years.
After her husband passed she moved to Omaha and enjoyed living in an independent living apartment. She enjoyed visits with family and friends and felt called to teach, explain, and tell historical stories even in her upper years. She greatly enjoyed reading her daily newspaper and books and visiting about the stories in them. Over the years, she had a variety of hobbies that included reading, art, crafts, sewing and cooking. For nearly the last six years she had been living at a Nursing home in Elkhorn. She is survived by her two sons Gordon and David (Marie), grandson Aaron, and sister Delilah. She was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, and daughter in law Linda.
