Lorraine L. Engel, 98, of Richland, died Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Columbus Community Hospital.


 

Lorraine’s wishes were for a private family funeral.

 Lorraine L. Engel was born November 3, 1925, near Richland to Fred and Gertrude (Voss) Neuman..  After graduating from high school at the age of 16, she received her teaching certificate.  On June 21, 1942, she married the love of her life,  John. H. Engel.  They lived and farmed northwest of Richland and later moved south of Richland in 1950, where she lived until the time of her death.  Lorraine had worked for State Farm Insurance and Woods Brothers in Schuyler.  She was a member of the Extension Club, organized the Richland Sheephead Club, belonged to many Bridge Clubs and had served on the Schuyler Cemetery Board.  Besides her love of card playing she enjoyed reading ,playing  bingo,  making jelly for the entire family and crocheting.  She was the “rock” of the family and loved spending time with all of them.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Juliann Nosal of Columbus, three sons; Jon (Anne) Engel of Richland, Joel (Susan) Engel of Columbus, Jerel (Carol) Engel of Richland, sister-in-law Sally Neuman of Raleigh, North Carolina, son-in-law Victor Urban of Schuyler,

 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Jane Urban ,two granddaughters,  Angela Dufek and Barbara Engel, brother Duane Neuman and great granddaughter Sarah Volz.

 

Memorials may be given to the Colfax County Senior Center where Lorraine enjoyed cards, bingo and great friends.
