Richard Semrad, 91, of Linwood, died Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Columbus Community Hospital.


In lieu of flowers, plants, and statues, memorials may be suggested to Abie National Cemetery or in care of the family.

Richard Semrad was born on September 26, 1933, to Charles and Emma (Bohaty) Semrad on the farm in Linwood, Nebraska. He attended Schuyler High School and graduated in 1952. After graduation, he farmed, as well as hauled grain and cattle for other farmers. He also hauled gravel for a local company in Schuyler. On June 29, 1965 Richard married Carolyn Matulka in David City, Nebraska. Two sons were born to this family, Randy and Ron. Richard from a previous marriage had 2 daughters, Linda and Jean. Jean died at birth.

Rich was a lifetime farmer and loved to farm with the help of his wife, children, and grandchildren. He raised lots of cattle and pigs. He even taught Carolyn how to drive the trucks on the farm. He loved to play softball and played up until his 50’s. He played on the  Abie A & W Grain Team (Old Guys) with his sons playing along his side. He also liked to dance. Rich enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and loved visiting with people, including his group of guys at the Abie’s Place where they enjoyed coffee.

Rich is survived by his wife, Carolyn, children: Randy (Mary), Ronny (Tammy), and Linda (Ken) Boyer, grandchildren: Dillon (Emma) Semrad, Trey (Kassidy) Semrad, Tabitha (Luke) Nielsen, Trev Semrad (special friend Kourtney Bouma), Jeanne, Johnny, and Jamie, step-grandchildren: Ryan, Tanner, and Stuart, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Jean.
