Jean was born April 12, 1930, in Pierce County, Nebraska, to John and Helen (Kouba) Silhacek.  She attended District #56 and graduated from Pierce High School in 1948.  Throughout her childhood, she was in 4-H.  She also took piano lessons for many years and was an accomplished pianist. On June 11, 1948, she married Edwin Jindra at the Congregational Church in Pierce.  They farmed their entire married life on a farm near Clarkson, working side by side. They enjoyed traveling across the country to visit relatives and friends.  After Edwin’s death, Jean continued to live and work on the farm.  Jean was known for her green thumb and always had a large garden and strawberry patch. She did a lot of canning and loved cooking and baking for her family.  She also was fond of flowers and always had African Violets in her home.  She loved helping in the fields, caring for the farm animals and raising chickens.  She did a lot of sewing and embroidering, and made many quilts and wall hangings for the grandchildren.  Jean was very proud of her Czech heritage and was interested in family genealogy. She spent countless hours researching and compiling her family history.  Above all, Jean's family was the joy of her life.

Jean is survived by her two children; Linda (Gorton) Smith of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Roger Jindra of Clarkson, seven grandchildren; Vanessa (Brian) Cumming, St. Edward, Jennifer (Brian) Kappel, Clarkson, Sommer (Adam) Fousek, Hickman, Nicholas Jindra and Lydia Smith, Clarkson, Brooke Jindra and fiancé Bryce Theilen, Clarkson, Bryanna (Ben) Grod, Kingwood, Texas, Wesley (Jennifer) Smith, Las Cruces, fourteen great-grandchildren; Alex, Emily, Evan, Roy, Jean, Ryan Cumming, Sawyer and Ella Kappel, Anna and Kate Fousek, Carrie Jindra, Jillian Grod, Madison and Alexandra Smith,  one great-great-grandchild, Morgan Cumming and sister-in-law Mardell Silhacek of Pierce.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law Gayedene Jindra and brother, Carol Silhacek.
