Joan was born June 1, 1954, in David City to Albert and Geraldine (Thill) Thomas. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from Aquinas High School. Her entire career was spent working for David City as City Clerk/ Administrator. On September 25,1982, she married Tim Kovar at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in David City. She was a member of St. Mary’s, the PCCW, Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and the Nebraska Municipal Clerks Association. Spending time with family was her greatest joy. Joan also loved board games, playing cards, golfing and bird watching.
Joan is survived by her husband, Tim of David City, two daughters, Nicole (Bryan) Hilderbrand, Gretna, Michaela (Kevin) Toombs of Lincoln, two grandchildren, Nevaeh and Sienna Hilderbrand, siblings Marlene Fonfara of Eugene, Oregon, Gerald (Cheri)Thomas, Sherrill (Ken) Smith and her mother-in-law, Geraldine Kovar, all of David City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Geraldine Thomas, father-in-law Jerome Kovar and brother-in-law Al Fonfara.
