Richard "Dick" Ronkar, 74, of David City, died Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at his home in David City.

Richard “Dick” Ronkar was born October 23, 1949 at David City, Nebraska, at the old David City Hospital. After his birth, he went home to Bellwood, Nebraska with his parents, Leonard and Norma (Sylvester) Ronkar. Four years later the family moved to Columbus, Nebraska and another four years later to Brookings SD, where Dick graduated high school and attended South Dakota State University for a year and a half before enlisting in the US Army. He completed Artillery Survey School at Fort Sill Oklahoma and his entire class received orders for Vietnam. After additional training in Ft. Lewis Washington, the class was on the next flight to Vietnam when President Nixon’s troop cuts took effect. Dick received new orders for Bamberg, Germany where he trained and practiced as an Artillery Surveyor. Following Honorable Discharge in 1971, Dick and his family returned to Bellwood Nebraska. Shortly after, he met Linda Lukassen and it was love at first sight. They were married in 1972. Dick was employed as a land surveyor for Rystrom Engr Co., and Bruce Gilmore Engr Co. for the first 12 years of his career. In 1983 he began 30 years of service as elected Butler County Surveyor and the family moved to an acreage on the SW side of David City where they lived for 36 years. During that time, he also was named as County Hwy Superintendent and Floodplain Administrator. He conducted private surveys for hundreds of area residents. Dick and his family enjoyed a wide variety of outdoor activities. Dick was a member of the Professional Surveyor Association of Nebraska.
Dick was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Ronkar.
He is survived by his mother, Norma (Sylvester) Ronkar, brother, Michael Ronkar, wife, Linda (Lukassen) Ronkar and sons, Kyle, Jesse and Adam(Justine) and Daughter, Kristine (Brandon) Behrens and his grandchildren, Vincent, Madison, Aliyah, Brycen, Jae, step grandchildren Candace and Wyatt.
