Harold Rueben Ladehoff was born on September 22, 1937, on a farm in rural Dodge County, Nebraska to Rueben H & Ella H (Wulf) Ladehoff.  He was the oldest of four boys.   He was baptized on November 11, 1937 and confirmed on May 28, 1950.  He graduated from Schuyler High School in 1954 and graduated from Midland College in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.   He did enlist in the US Army in June of 1957 and served until May of 1963.  While serving in the reserves as Staff Sgt E-6, he was also a junior high science teacher for Schuyler Schools.  While teaching, he also coached junior high boys’ basketball.

On August 26, 1961, he married the love of his life, Gayle Longacre and they lived in Schuyler most of their lives, moving to Lincoln in 2012.  His baptism came to fulfillment on October 14, 2023, at his home at Pemberly Place, Lincoln.

While living in Schuyler, Harold was known as the “like a good neighbor” State Farm Insurance agent for 43 years, retiring December 31, 2008.  Harold was an active member of the Schuyler community, including St. John’s Lutheran Church – where he served as President of the church council, served on several Pastoral call committees, member of Schuyler Chamber of Commerce.   He was  the secretary of the American Legion Post #47.  He also served on the Schuyler City Council, Schuyler Jaycees, Rotary Club, Acacia Lodge #34 where he served as Secretary for several years,  Oddfellows and Schuyler Grade School board of education.

Harold is survived by his three children:  Pam (Ric) Miller, Omaha; Jackie (Doug) Matthies, Lincoln; and Lori (Scott) Jenkins, Lincoln.  Grandchildren include:  Shelby (Alec) Agan, Denver, Colorado; Ryan Miller, Denver Colorado; Sam (Miranda) Otte, Lincoln; Thomas Otte, Lincoln; and Mara Otte, Mequon, Wisconsin.  Also surviving is his brother, Harvey (Gae Beckstrom), North Bend, brothers in law, Ron (Shirley) Longacre, Bellevue,  Ted (Lana) Longacre, Omaha,  two sisters-in-law, Lavonne Ladehoff, North Bend; Karen Ladehoff, Arlington, Kathy (Don) Brink, Omaha, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Harold is preceded in death by his wife, Gayle; parents Ella and Rueben Ladehoff; brothers Harlan and David; brother-in-law, Michael Longacre; sister-in-law, Linda Gilbert; parents-in-law, Pauline Leaders and Ted Longacre.
