Vernetta J. Rahtz, 92, of Leigh, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Brookstone Village in Omaha.

Vernetta was born August 20, 1923, south of Leigh, Nebraska to Jacob and Bertha(Kroeger) Nitz. She spent her life in Leigh until moving to Omaha, to be with her sister, in 2009. On May 25, 1948, she married William Svoboda at St. John's Lutheran Church in Leigh. They had five children. William died June 8, 1972. On March 21, 1981, Vernetta married Donald Rahtz. He died April 18, 2005. Vernetta loved cleaning and spent much of her life serving others. She cleaned the Bank and Post Office and helped Don clean the elementary school in Leigh. She had also worked at the Leigh
Bowling Alley. She loved flowers and participating in the County Fair. Vernetta was a Life Member of the Legion Auxiliary, The House of Yesteryear Board and St. John's Lutheran, where she had taught Sunday School, kept the Cradle Roll and was known to have her children clean the church from time to time.

Vernetta is survived by her daughter, Ronda Svoboda and her significant other, Ron Curry of Fairfield, Ohio, sons;Ronald Svoboda of Bellevue, Rolland(Kara) Svoboda of Pocahontas, Iowa, Ross
Svoboda and his significant other, Cher Juracek of Norfolk Dale(Wendy) Rahtz of Leigh, Russell Rahtz of Columbus, a sister, Darlene "Dee" Sorenson, Omaha, a brother, Arden(Barb) Nitz of Beatrice, 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and Ross's best friend Rick Finkhaus of Norfolk, who was like a son to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands William Svoboda and Donald Rahtz, one son Roger Svoboda, two sisters; Viola Loseke and Evelyn Henry and two brothers, Vernon and Eldon Nitz.
