Bernard Heavican, 90, of Schuyler, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

Bernard was born on the farm near Rogers on February 15, 1936, to Martin E. and Vera Gerrard Heavican. He attended schools in the area and Schuyler High School. On November 17, 1956, he married Elaine Houfek at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Schuyler. They made their home in Schuyler and Bernie worked for many years at Higgins Milling and Cargill. He was a huge Husker fan, enjoyed time spent at the cabin on the river, fishing, golfing and working on various projects. Bernie had served on the Board of the Schuyler Golf Club, was a member of the church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his children; Shelly Whisenant, Tim (Kaye) Heavican, and Todd Heavican, all of Schuyler, Terry (Pat) Heavican and Patrick Heavican of Omaha, two daughters-in-law, Cindy Heavican of Schuyler and Amy Heavican of Omaha, 13 grandchildren; Tanya (Matt) Prochaska, Drew (Vanessa) Whisenant, Brent (Stacy) Heavican, Cole (Tosha) Heavican, Tara (Dave) Chamberlin, Jeff (Jill) Kruger, Tami (Charlie) Vaughan, Jackie (Ryan) Tuff, Colin (fiance Amara), Joey, and Nathan Heavican, Tayla (Joe) Foral, and Cailey (Zach) Noonan, 21 great-grandchildren; JaeLeigh, Braxton and Grayson Prochaska, Sophia and Eliana Whisenant, Stella and Vera Foral, Karissa, Carter, and Treyton Heavican, Zebediah and Luella Heavican, Brielle and Camden Chamberlin, Madison, Tyler and Laine Kruger, Kylee and Brooks Vaughan and Kristin and Lincoln Tuff, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine in 2018, parents Mart and Vera Heavican, in-laws William and Vlasta Houfek, sister and brother in law, Joan and Anthony Ferrari, and brother in law, Bill Houfek.
