Virginia R. Rerucha, age 88, of David City, Nebraska, passed away on October 3, 2025. She was born on January 27, 1937, in David City to Floyd and Stella (Staroscik) Nichols and was the youngest of five children.

Virginia grew up in David City, where she developed a lifelong love for animals and the outdoors, often riding her neighbor’s horses. As a teenager, she worked at Dairy Queen, the Egg Plant, and First National Bank, all while helping care for her ailing father. She graduated from David City Public Schools in 1955.

In 1954, Virginia met Richard Rerucha after he gave her and a friend a ride home from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They were united in marriage on July 26, 1958, and moved to Atkinson, Nebraska, in 1959 to begin their farming journey. Their first child, Robert, was born there. In 1961, they returned to Butler County, eventually purchasing a farm east of David City in 1962, where they farmed and raised livestock. Three more children were born to them: Nancy, Steven, and Joan.

Virginia embraced life as a farm wife and homemaker. The farm was always alive with animals, especially dogs and horses. She served for many years as superintendent of the Butler County Fair Horse Shows and assisted with the farming operation. In addition to her work on the farm, Virginia held various positions in the David City area, including with Wilson Construction, Farm Service Agency (ASCS), David City Chamber of Commerce, KV Vet Supply, and Heartland Communications.

Active in her community, Virginia was a member of the PCCW, Northside Extension Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and a certified member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She loved camping trips with her family, attending sporting events for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and spending time outdoors by the lake with her dogs.

Virginia had a lifelong love for music. A member of her high school glee club, she had a beautiful singing voice, but her true passion was sparked when she inherited her father Floyd’s guitar. She taught herself the guitar and later gave lessons to local children. During this time, she formed a lasting musical partnership and friendship with Barb Dehner. Together, they performed at weddings, funerals, weekly church Masses, community events, and even sang backup vocals on a record for Ernie and The Countrymen. They also performed at the Thorpe Opera House with The Country with a Touch of Brass group. Virginia continued to share her music with friends and family throughout her life.

Virginia is survived by her children: Nancy (Robert) Moravec of David City, Steve (Lyne’) Rerucha of David City, and Joni (Robert) Ebel of Shelby, Nebraska. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jennifer (John) Reinhardt, Jessica (Danny) Johnson, Michelle (Jon) Brabec, Nolan Moravec, Grant Moravec, Holly Rerucha, Aaron (Brianna) Rerucha, and Hope Rerucha; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, son Robert, step-grandson Michael, great-grandson Jack, brother Jack, sisters Ilene, Norma and Ruth, and her parents.

Virginia will be remembered for her warmth, strength, creativity, and unwavering love for her family, her community, her faith, and the land she called home.
