Gary Douglas Howser was born October 1st, 1942 to Keith and Leora (Fox) Howser in David City Nebraska.
Gary was born into a family of six children. He loved his brothers and sisters and would always light up when talking about their adventures and time together, our family favorite was the long walk to school in the snow and Dad and Uncle Richard sharing ice cream on a deserted country road.
He graduated high school in 1961 at St Edward, Nebraska. Gary served in the Army from 1962-64. He was a Military Policeman and was presented with a National Defense Service Medal.
His career as a great welder was always a topic of conversation among fellow employees. He worked more than 15 years in Columbus Nebraska at D& L. He finished out his career at his beloved Timpte Trailers in David City. His friendships there were a saving grace when he lost his wife. He was the hardest most dependable worker. We are certain however that his ornery trickster side was apparent as well. His friendships with his coworkers were topics we enjoyed having him share.
Gary married Jodie (Stanton) on October 16th 1974 in Yankton, South Dakota. At this time Gary instantly became a parent to Jodie’s 3 children. We are positive that at that time he could have never imagined that he would be “Dad” to dozens of kids He was a gentle loving father to all. His love was unconditional and his sense of humor and easy smile was a beacon in so many children’s storm of life. Gary and Jodie were honored as Nebraska Foster Parents of the Year. Gary was a humble man who did not ask much from life, a little Debbie oatmeal pie, meatloaf and strawberry rhubarb pie were always a hit with him. Feeding Dad was Jodie’s favorite thing to do and when she passed in 2009, it was an honor to host him for any meal that we could.
Gary was well known for having the most incredible garden in Rising City. He shared that produce with anyone who asked, stopped by or “robbed” the garden. He loved showing off his crops and he loved giving it away even more. He was a great bowler, softball player and coach to many.
Gary’s life was about giving with no expectation of return. He gave his family and anyone he met his time, his love, his wisdom, and the love of fishing and football.
He is survived by his Brother Richard (Barb) Howser and Sister in Law Rosetta (Russell) Howser of Albion, Nebraska, His children, Dorene (Michael) Spies, GeorgeAnn (Jeff) Williams, Naomi (Mike) Morales, Fronia Miller, Stephanie Emily (Michael) Swart, Honey Booth, Rachael Howser, Gary D Howser Jr, John (Darlene) Garecht, Fred (Katie) Miller, and Teylor Howser. There are many others that were able to have “Dad” step in when they needed, he cherished all. Gary had many grandchildren, he had 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom he loved having around and spending time with.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents , his wife Jodie, his siblings Roberta (Howard) Warner, Russell Howser, Nolan Howser and Bernita (Rupert) Nathan .
