Deborah G. “Deb” Benedict was born on August 13, 1951, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Frank and Lillian (Mais) Benedict. She grew up in Bellwood and graduated from David City Public High School in 1969.

Following graduation, Deb made her home in Columbus, where she built a career of more than 34 years at BD’s. She later worked at Central Community College in Columbus as a part-time custodian and, most recently, at Subway in David City before retiring.

Deb was an active member of the Eagle’s Club in Columbus and the United Methodist Church in Bellwood. She had a lifelong passion for sports—playing softball for the BD’s team for several years and enjoying many evenings at the bowling alley. She also loved the great outdoors. Fishing and camping were among her favorite pastimes, and she often reminisced about catching her very first fish—a carp—at age five at Loomis Pond in Bellwood, an experience that sparked her enduring love of fishing.

Deb’s affection for animals was well known. She raised rabbits as a hobby and earned the affectionate nickname “Rabbit” from friends and family. She was especially fond of birds, and her patriotism was something she carried proudly throughout her life.

Deb will be lovingly remembered by her brother Mike (Cheryl) Benedict of Bellwood; cousins Carolyn Legenza of Columbus, Jerry McDonald of Bellwood, Raymond Mais of Bellwood, Earle Benedict of Brule, Deb Buell, John Cresson, and Jeff Cresson; nieces Crystal Hollmann and Wendy Fisher of Seward; and nephews Arin Hollmann of Lincoln and Erik Hollmann of Platte Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lillian; and her sisters, Connie Hollmann and Janelle Benedict.

Deb’s kind spirit, love of the outdoors, and devotion to animals will be missed by all who knew her.
