Leonard was born June 6, 1932, in Schuyler, to Joseph and Lillian (Shonka) Svoboda. He attended area schools, graduated from Schuyler High in 1951 and entered the United States Navy. Following his Honorable Discharge he attended Kearney State College, earning a Bachelor's Degree, UNO where he earned his Master's and on December 29, 1956, he married Judy Spale at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Schuyler. They moved a lot in their early years to the various teaching positions he held. In 1975 they moved to Norfolk where he became the director of special education. In the late '80s they moved to California where Leonard was a Nursing Home Administrator. They then moved back to Nebraska to be closer to family and friends and he did some substitute teaching. He loved going to the gym, socializing with fellow Vets at the Legion Club and of course, attending as many activities of the grandkids as was possible. Leonard was very proud he was able to care for Judy in her final years at home and that he to was able to live at home at the end of his life.
He is survived by his three daughters; Vicki (Mike) Rinne, Omaha, Connie (Monty) Hergenrader, North Platte, Jacquie (Jeremy) Theilen of Schuyler, 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Judy, parents, son Daniel Svoboda, two grandsons, Cash Coolidge and James Svoboda, and siblings Dorothy Leeper, Marie Svoboda, Dick Svoboda, Ed Svoboda and Marge Metzler.
