Viola Mae Marie (Mathiason) Krupka was born on November 8, 1945, in Cedar County, Nebraska, to Alvin and Theda (Steffen) Mathiason. She attended high school in Hartington, NE.
On May 4, 1963, Viola married Richard Krupka, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, NE. Together they built a life in various Nebraska communities — Howells, Fremont, a farm north of Schuyler, and eventually settling in Schuyler in 1985.
Viola was a hard worker throughout her life. She managed groups of teenagers walking beans, worked at the Pathfinder Hotel in Fremont, Doneli Foods in Howells, and spent many years bartending at the Husker Bar. Known for her delicious cooking, Vi especially enjoyed making kolaches, dumplings, potato salad, and canned goods. She also had a talent for rug making.
Above all, Viola cherished her family. She and Richard raised five children and spent their retirement years surrounded by loved ones in Schuyler. Her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted member of Divine Mercy Parish – St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler, the St. Mary’s Guild, and the Schuyler Fire Auxiliary.
Viola is survived by her five children: Dean Krupka of Fremont and his son, Nathan of North Bend; Theda (Kirk) Hansen of North Bend, and their children, Allison (Austin) Jakubowski and their daughter, Avery, and Shane (Makayla) Hansen and their daughter, Everlyn; Tim (Brenda) Krupka and their children, Jeff Shuster, Jeremy Krupka, Samara Krupka, and Jailyn Sulley; Paul (Kay) Krupka and their children, Lorah Lynn (Chris) Baete and their children Katelynn Stodieck, Kendra Baete, Grayson Baete, Christopher (Audrea) Krupka, and Mylissa (Branden) Lotspeich and their daughter Kamree Lotspeich, son, Dale Krupka of Omaha and his children, Anna and Tanner Krupka. She is also survived by her brother, Claude Mathiason and his wife, Bonnie, of Hartington, along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Richard, daughter-in-law Sandy Krupka, her brother Curt (Phyllis) Mathiason, sister Lina (Dan) Suing, niece Shawna Suing, great-niece Valerie Suing, and nephews Derek and Chad Mathiason.
Viola will be remembered for her love of family, strong work ethic, warm heart, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
