Richard Bennett was born in Flandreau , South Dakota to Bert and Shirley Bennett on September 22,   1936.  He graduated from Egan High School, South Dakota in 1955 and attended S.D. State University graduating with a Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1959.  His first engineering job was working for General Electric.  In January 1962 he enlisted in the Air National Guard and trained in Enid, OK. He then  came back to Sioux Falls to start a private contracting business.  Later he joined the South Dakota Highway Engineering  Department.  In 1965 he decided to join the staff of Northwestern Bell as the Equipment  Engineer, working there for 29 years and then took early retirement. He then decided to try something new and began working for RVW Company in Columbus, and when their telephone cable fazed out he retired again. His love of gardening was supposed to keep him busy, but it hard to garden in the winter months so once again he found a job working for NE State Department of Roads Rail and Transportation Department. In February 2007 he really did retire. Richard loved retirement and could devote more time to gardening and wintering in Florida. He enjoyed his family and was pleased with hearing about their accomplishments.

Richard is survived by his wife Beverly Heins, Bennett, Son David and Jacqueline Bennett, Daughters Ann Richards, Amy and James Lariviere, Dana and Ryan Burns, Step children Brian and Christi Howe, Brad Howe.

Grandchildren Jordan and Ally Feno, Jon Richards, Jada Bennett, Jared Bennett, Kelly, Meghan ,Jacob Richards Jr., Morgan, Brooks Andersen, Jackson Lariviere, Seth, Caleb, Macy, Easton and Leyton Howe. Great grandchildren Harper and Noah Feno and Harper and Hadley Richards.  Brother Dan and Dorene Bennett and many nephews, nieces, and friends.

Preceding him in death are parents Bert and Shirley Bennett, sister Joan Schofield, daughter Robin Bennett Williams, son Richard Bennett Jr., Diane Bennett, and Mary Bennett.  Sons-in-law Andy Haskell and Jake Richards
