Richard "Dick" Kruse, 88, of Leigh, died at his home Sunday, February 18, 2024.

Richard Kruse was born March 18, 1935, in Columbus, Nebraska to Paul J. and Elsie (Bock) Kruse. He attended area schools and graduated from Schuyler High School. On August 28, 1958, he married Theresa Limbach at the Catholic Church in North Bend. They lived in Schuyler until 1990, moved to Clarkson and in 1995 to Leigh. Dick was the Colfax County Sherriff for 28 years and was Police Chief of Clarkson and Leigh for several years. He enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting and fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Leigh and Sucha Post #302 of the American Legion.
He is survived by his six children: Paul (Linda) Kruse of Columbus, Diana (Jim) Dubas, Columbus, Karen (James) Bartley, Costa Rica, James Kruse of Bennington, Jeanette Lass of Schuyler and Kurt (Katie) Kruse of Leigh, one sister Lila Brandenburgh of David City, 25 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Elsie (Bock) Kruse, Wife Theresa December 19, 2023, in-laws Joseph and Angela Limbach, son Alan Kruse, son-in-law Tim Lass, daughter-in-law Mary Kruse and two grandchildren, AJ and Julie Dubas.
