Alan Richard "Rick" Patocka was born July 12, 1959, in David City to Otto and Mamie (Fiedler) Patocka.  He graduated from David City High School in 1977, attended  the University of Missouri and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. in 1991.  Rick lived a very active life despite suffering a spinal cord injury from an automobile accident in 1977.  His wheelchair accessible van was rarely home when the weather was good.  He enjoyed socializing at car shows, Husker athletic events, radio-station promotions, farmers markets and Sam's Club.  His most impressive attribute was an ability to keep such a great attitude in spite of his disabilities.  With all the struggles he faced, it was amazing how upbeat he stayed and how positive he always was.  So many of the things most of us take for granted, Rick lived most of his life without.  His legacy will be the example he set for all of us.  As a believer, Ricks' faith kept him strong.  He was a light and his light shined bright.

Rick is survived by his two sisters Connie (Larry) Gaskill of Lincoln, Karen Hoffman of Omaha, brother, Paul (Deb) Patocka of Columbus, two sisters-in-law Delores Patocka of Norfolk, Linda Patocka of Columbus, brother-in-law Richard Staggs of Lincoln and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dwayne, Ron, Lloyd, Gary, Danny and a sister, Janice Staggs.
