Betty Layne Kohout, 91, Lincoln, Nebr., died March 13, 2016, her final days spent at home surrounded by her family.

She was born to Frank and Eloise Kracl on February 17, 1925, in Rogers, Nebr.  Shortly after graduating from Schuyler High School, she married Addison "Ed" Kohout in August of 1942.  They started their married life in Schuyler, eventually making their lifelong home in Lincoln.  After years as a homemaker, Betty served as class president and graduated in the first class of the Lincoln Public School of Practical Nursing in 1964. In 1970, she attended the Cleveland Clinic and Hospital Foundation for Enterostomal Therapy becoming Nebraska's first licensed Enterostomal Therapist.  After retirement from Bryan Memorial Hospital in 1988, she spent the remainder of her years working at the family business, Gas Plus, and enjoying time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandsons.

 

Betty will be greatly missed by her children, John (Patricia) Kohout, Firth, Nebr., Barbara (Roy Hudson) Scadden, Keystone, Colo., Jeff (Liz) Kohout, Ramona, Calif., grandchildren Jeff (Lisa) Tyrrell, Casper, Wyo., Jackie (Matt) Wright, Lincoln, Nebr., Kelli Kohout, Ramona, Calif., Tess Kohout, Lincoln, Nebr., great-grandsons Max and Emmett Wright, siblings Evelyn Kuwitzky, Hayward, Calif., Marilyn Foster, Carson City, Nev., Buck (Roseann) Kracl, Schuyler, Nebr., Douglas Kracl, Santa Cruz, Calif., Elayne (Ray) Henry, Lincoln, Nebr., David Kracl, South Jordan, Utah, Richard (Sharon) Kracl, Schuyler, Nebr., and Darrel Kracl, Greeley, Colo.

Preceded in death by husband Addison "Ed" Kohout and siblings, Lavern Kracl, Gladys Ekeland, Marvin Kracl, Marlin Kracl, Jack Kracl.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Memorials to Capital Humane Society.
