Leroy Leonard Gall, age 80, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.Born on July 31, 1945, in West Point, Nebraska, to Joseph and Mary (Kluthe) Gall, he was one of nine children and learned early the values that would guide his life: faith, hard work, humility, and devotion to family.
He attended Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School in Howells through eighth grade before graduating from Howells High School in 1963. Following graduation, he worked at Wigington Garage in Schuyler before proudly serving his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. Upon returning home from service, he began building the life that would become his greatest legacy. Not long after returning home, he met the love of his life. He and Jan (Wolff) Gall were married on April 18, 1970, beginning a beautiful marriage that spanned 56 years. Together they built a family rooted in faith, love, and unwavering commitment. Throughout his life, he was known as a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened. His wisdom was not found in lengthy speeches but in the thoughtful guidance, quiet encouragement, and steady example he provided to those around him. He taught by the way he lived.
His work ethic was unmatched. After working for Valmont and other local employers, he began what would become more than a 50-year career with Cargill, retiring in 2018. He held several part time jobs including maintaining the church and cemetery grounds. Even in retirement, he continued working part-time at the Schuyler Landfill. Whether on the job, helping a neighbor, or caring for his family, he approached every task with dedication and integrity. He found joy in life’s simple blessings: riding his tractor, dancing, playing cards, riding horses and mules, and gathering with family and friends. Nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were the pride of his life.
His Catholic faith was the foundation upon which he built everything. He faithfully co-taught CCD with his wife for more than twenty years and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 155. His faith was not merely something he practiced—it was something he lived every day. His unwavering faith was perhaps most evident during his battle with cancer, which he faced with remarkable grace, courage, and trust in God. Throughout the Lenten season, he continued to carry the cross during stations whenever he was able. In doing so, he offered one final lesson to those who loved him: a lesson in courage, perseverance, and trust in God. His quiet strength and unwavering faith inspired everyone privileged enough to witness it.
He leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his example, his wisdom, his steadfast love, and the countless memories he helped create. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Eddie (Mary), Dennis (Dorothy), and Leander Gall, two sisters, Alice (Louis) Mastera and Sr. Bernice Gall, sister-in- law Julie Gall, brother in law Gilbert Spenner and in-laws John and Pauline Wolff. He is survived by his wife Janice, his children: Bryan (Gretchen) Gall, Kevin Gall and girlfriend Angie, Amy (Brian) Brester, and Matthew (Monika) Gall, his grandchildren: Justyn (Cayla) Gall, Kyleigh Gall, Kaitlyn Gall and fiancé PJ, Samantha (Luke) Renter, Jessi Brester and boyfriend Casey, Josh Brester and fiancé Lilly, Lance Brester, Madi and Maverick Gall, and great-grandchildren: Adleigh and Braxton Gall and Wrenley and Rowdy Renter. He is also survived by his sisters: Marie (Bill) Koley and Benilda Spenner, his brother, Joe Gall and his brother and sister in laws, Esther and Carol Gall, Gene and Judy Wolff, Duane and Cindy Brester and Deb and Marvin Indra along with many nieces and nephews. While our hearts grieve his absence, we take comfort in knowing that he has been welcomed into the arms of the Lord he served so faithfully throughout his life.
His life was a testament to what matters most: faith, family, service, and love. His legacy will live on in all who knew him, loved him, and were blessed by his example.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
