Larry Wietfeld, 72, of Leigh, died Friday, August 15, 2025, at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk.


 

In lieu of flowers, plants and statues,  memorials may be given to the family for designation to charities chosen by Larry

Larry was born November 2, 1952, in Columbus to Hilger and Helen (Kreikemeier) Wietfeld.  He received his education in Leigh schools and graduated from Leigh High School in 1971.  On August 31, 1977, he married Vickie Williams at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leigh.  Larry farmed with his father and then owned and operated Wietfeld Hay Grinding.  Over the years he drove truck, leasing to Rickert Transportation, Creston Transportation, Behlens Trucking, Norseman and Wietfeld Trucking.  He enjoyed woodworking and time with the grandkids was his greatest joy.  He loved to plan community halloween  parties, old cars, truck pulls and helped start the Truck Show and Shine at the Colfax County Fair.  Vickie died in 2016 and he and Bonnie Johannes Fairburn have been together since 2019.  Larry was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leigh.

Surviving are his three children, Adam (Karen)  Wietfeld of Humphrey, Nate ( Megan) Wietfeld of Stanton, Michele (Heath) Clausen of Leigh, his significant other Bonnie Johannes Fairburn, eleven grandchildren; Colten, Makenna, Tyson, Cade, Tate, Kenzie, Callie and Mollie(all Wietfelds) and Macy, Averi and Jase Clausen, sister Marlene Groteleuschen of Lincoln, 3 brothers, Jim of Columbus and Paul and Kenny of Leigh, sister-in-law Sheryl (Mike) Johnson, also of Leigh.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Vickie, parents Hilger and Helen Wietfeld, parents-in-law Dick and Maxine Williams, a brother, Bob Wietfeld, sisters-in-law Terri and Linda Wietfeld and brother-in-law Willie Groteleuschen.
