Duane Svehla, 72, of Linwood, died Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the Butler County Healthcare Center in David City
Duane D. Svehla, born July 26, 1949 in Columbus, NE to Frank J. and Lydia T. (Poulas) Svehla, of Clarkson, NE, died January 16, 2022. The family lived on a farm five miles south of Clarkson and Duane attended school at District 30. On February 3, 1958 they moved to a farm 3 ½ miles west of Linwood, NE in Butler County. Duane attended grade school at District 10 until his 8th grade graduation. He then attended Schuyler High School where he graduated in 1967. Duane stayed on the farm and worked with his Dad until Frank’s passing in May of 1981.
Duane retired from crop production in 1990, but rented out his ground while continuing to raise hogs for a few more years. He remained on the farm with his Mother until she passed away in April of 1995. He raised hens and sold eggs to people in the local communities of David City and Schuyler until his health wouldn’t allow him to do it any longer. Duane was able to spend his remaining years on the farm, with regular visitors stopping by to talk, or doing so over the phone.
In addition to his fondness for visiting with friends and family, Duane’s interests included hunting and fishing, shooting, researching family history and records, and gardening. Over the years many individuals spent time hunting on Duane’s ground, and nothing was asked for in return. Duane is survived by his friends, neighbors, and many cousins. A Memorial Service will be held in the Spring, and Duane will be buried next to his parents in the Schuyler Cemetery. Memorials suggested to Nebraska Right to Life.
