Donald W. Folken was born April 14, 1929, in Schuyler, Nebraska to Elmer and Lenora(Kroeger) Folken. He was baptized May 14, 1929 at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor A. Bergt and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church on March 29, 1942 by Pastor A.C. Burroughs. He graduated from Schuyler High School. On August 23, 1950, he married Donna Jonas at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schuyler. Don entered the United States Army in 1951, served in Japan for 18 months and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a farmer until retiring in 2001. One of his greatest joys was fishing with his family. In 1961, he was a founding Incorporator of the Schuyler Co-op and was also very active in the building of Trinity Lutheran Church in Schuyler. In his youth he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping on the Platte River, where he later built his own cabin. In 2011, Don and Donna bought a home in Schuyler and moved off the farm.
Don is survived by his wife, Donna of Schuyler, two daughters; Lynn Steffensmeier, Schuyler, Connie(David ) Becker, Reno, Nevada, one son Brian Folken of Columbus, 4 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Melvin Folken, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lerlaine(Frank) Bohac, Gerladine(Richard) Brocker, Darlene(Glen) Wilch, parents-in-law Arnold and Irma Jonas and a great-grandson, Jaiden Folken.
