Harry Earl Crook was born on December 13, 1942, to Earl L. and Evelyn (Wilson) Crook at the Shelby General Hospital in Shelby, Nebraska. He graduated from Rising City Public Schools in 1960. It was while he was in high school that he met the love of his life, Janice Polak, on a blind date. Harry and Janice were united in marriage on August 26, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in David City, Nebraska. They lived many places including briefly in Colorado, and also in Columbus, Seward, and David City, Nebraska, before finally settling in Schuyler, Nebraska. To this union three sons were born – Steven, Craig, and David.

Harry and Janice enjoyed participating in their sons’ lives as they grew up. Harry and Janice loved to travel, and they took many family vacations and camping trips throughout the United States. Harry also enjoyed building things from wood and spent countless hours in his crafting shed behind their house in Schuyler. He was quick to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked and could fix just about anything. As their family grew, Harry and Janice enjoyed attending as many of their grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts, and family events as possible. And, in their later years, they loved spending time with all of their great-grandchildren.

Harry held down several jobs throughout his lifetime finally retiring as Accounts Payable Manager in 2008 from the Cargill Beef Plant in Schuyler having worked there for 40 years. Harry was key in organizing and served for several years on the Keep Schuyler Beautiful Committee. He served on the Schuyler Memorial Hospital Foundation Board and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Harry was honored by the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association with their “Hero’s Award” for rescuing a young woman from drowning.

In 2014, Harry and Janice moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be closer to their doctors. It was a short time together in Lincoln, as Janice passed on March 7, 2016, from complications of diabetes. Harry mourned his beloved wife from that point on. In early 2023, Harry’s health began to decline and on November 15, 2024, he passed from this world to our Heavenly Fathers Kingdom where he is once again reunited with his beautiful wife, Janice.

Those left to mourn Harry’s passing are his children, Steven (Kimberly) of Crab Orchard, NE, Craig (Tina) of New Castle, CO and David (Kathy) of Kearney, NE; grandchildren, Brandon (Tracy) Crook, Travis (Heather) Crook, Joshua (Alaina) Crook, Jennifer (Casey) DeBord, Avery (Jenna) Crook, Tori (Garrett) Arnold, Tristan (Courtney) Crook, Taylor Crook and Jaheam Crook; great-grandchildren – Katelyn and Callee Crook, Cameron and Haeley Crook, Brody, Lucas, and Brynlee Crook; Julian, Brayden, Alec, Liam, Scarlet and Madilyn DeBord; Scarlett and Greyson Crook; and Palmer Crook; sister, Viola Kroft of Rising City, NE; brother-in-law, Dan Kouma, Sr. of Seward, NE; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
