Irene was born May 5, 1927, in Watkins Glen, New York to Andrew and Emma (Bugay) Czapla. They lived near Fullerton and she graduated from Fullerton High School in 1944. On November 29, 1951, she married Phillip Donoghue at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. They lived and farmed near Appleton. Over the years Irene had worked as a linotype operator for the Nance County Journal, the Columbus Telegram, Henningsen Foods, Spencer Beef and Excel in Schuyler for 25 years. Irene loved gardening, was an avid reader, enjoyed puzzles, board games and checkers, geneaology and history. Her family and faith were her greatest strengths. After retiring, Irene was a very dedicated volunteer at the Colfax County Senior Center in Schuyler.
Irene is survived by two daughters; Georgi (Larry) Begnoche of Sioux City, Iowa, Debra (Kurt) Garrison of Homewood, Kansas, one son, Dale (Vickie) Donoghue of Octavia and six grandchildren, Mitchell, Emily and Allison Donoghue, Andrew Skarka, Matt (Mandy) Skarka and Brandon O'neill. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Nadine Skarka and sister Roberta Buresh.
